FYI: Anti-Israel Week in May

Every year, during the spring quarter, the Muslim Student Union (MSU) at UCI hosts an "Anti-Israel Week." Last year the MSU called their week "Holocaust in the Holyland." I have it under good authority that we can expect the MSU to host their events between May 15 to May 18 this year. The events are often in the "free speech" zone, the flagpoles, at UCI.
Events often feature Amir Abdel Malik Ali, Norman Finkelstein, Neturei Karta and other Anti-Zionist (aka Anti-Semitic) speakers. MSU members, moreover, like to dress up as IDF soldiers and pretend to be "oppressors." Last year members with the MSU marched around campus chanting "Anti-Israel," "Anti-Hate" and "Anti-Apartheid." Many Jewish and pro-Israel students reported being verbally and physically harassed during this week.

I do not anticipate that this year will be any different. Speakers often try to make the distinction between "Zionist Jews" and "Jews." It's pretty clear that they mean "Jews." Even if they mean "Zionist Jews" or "Israelis," I could care less. When one calls for Israel's annihilation, he is calling for the extermination of 6 million Jews currently living there. That is anti-Semitism.

I've included videos from events hosted during the last couple of years.

What kind of cheap drugs is this terrorist on? He is obviously delusional. After listening to his rediculous speech its obvious that he is using freedom of speech for propaganda. People like this speaker who bark baseless like the ones I just saw make peace less likely. His comments are untrue and very inflammatory. If this is the best speaker MSU can provide I feel very sorry for them. But what is to be expected from an organization that supports terrorism. As far as the Bush bashing, MSU should be ashamed of themselves. Anti American comments don't belong on school campus. If these clowns dont like America they are more than welcome to go live in their successful countries like Lebannon, Syria, or Afghanistan. They can ride their camels to the sunshine!

IDF731: In one video Amir Malik Ali is shouting about how anti-Semitism is a very arrogant term used by Jews since Arabs are also "Semites." He presents lots of misinformation and his own prejudices by asserting this. For starters, "Anti-Semitism" was a term coined by Wilhelm Marr against Jews living in Europe. Marr is often associated with "Judenhass," a German term meaning "Jew-hate." During this period before WWII, people wanted real and solid reasons for their hatred of Jews. The enlightenment was a driving factor behind this and many people liked the idea of having solid reasons to hate Jews. Anti-Semitism was coined and became a way for people to legitimately assert their hatred for Jews because they believed they had "facts" demonstrating that Jews were inferior, particularly based on intelligence, phyisique and appearance.

Malik Ali, however, asserts in one of the videos that Jews use this term because we're arrogant. He goes on to say that Jews feel they are superior to Arabs. This is the kind of education and knowledge that is sponsored by the student group bringing Malik Ali to UCI.

This is just a tame example of some of what this speaker spews forth.

Should we be selling shirts printed with those Dutch cartoons during Hate Fest '07?

First and foremost, the comment about the MSU being an organiztaion that supports terrorism is completely false and made-up. Terrorism is disgusting and the killing of innocent people is in no means tolerable in Islam. What about the suicide bombers you ask..well this is when we look at the actual people behind the acts and not islam itself because it's not the religion that is flawed, it's the people who practice it wrongfully. Moreover, anti-zionism is not the same as anti-sematism. If you heard during the rally, students were cheering "judaism yes, zionism no." I think we can agree that zionism was a political movement and it is not a part of the jewish religion. Muslims DO NOT hate Jews and if there are some out there who do (and this also goes for Jews who hate Mulsims) then this is a very wrong attitude. Lastly, I don't think you would like it if someone came into your home right now, kicked you out of your house and claimed your property. This is what happened to millions of families and civilians when their land was occupied. And although we can't turn the clock back now, we should at least try to peacefully work out an agreement where both countries, Palestine and Isreal can coexist.

Actually my grandparents were kicked out of their homes in the Arab world for being Jews. Some of my family were massacred by their Arab neighbors. Know why? Because of their Jewish ancestry. Jews did not live under a golden age under Arab rule. The only place they could go after being kicked out, robbed and raped was Israel. One million of us.

As for the MSU being against terrorism... I'll believe that when they stop bringing speakers who support terrorism and the students stop supporting terrorism.
