Earlier this week I blogged about the fact that a photo of the notoriously racist, homophobic (the movement he is associated with prescribes death for homosexuals), anti-American and antisemitic Amir Abdel Malik Ali is featured at the UC Irvine Anthill Pub. While it is extremely unlikely that the motivations of the pub management were malicious, I am sincerely hoping that the management opts to take the photo down or at least offers some sort of clarification for the campus community.
Discover the Networks lists some of Malik Ali's most notable statements made during his hateful speeches at UCI:
"The truth of the matter is your days are numbered. We will fight you. We will fight you until we are either martyred or until we are victorious."
"They [Jews] think they are superman, but we, the Muslims, are kryptonite. They [Jews] know that their days are numbered."
"Sooner or later, today's Muslim students will be the parents of Muslim children. And they should be militants."
"In America, you're mostly fighting with your tongue, but you should also learn how to fight with the sword."
"Israelis ought to return to Germany, to Poland, to Russia. The Germans should hook y'all up. You [Israelis] should go back to Germany."
Below is a picture, courtesy of Julian Babbitt, of the image of imam Ali which is featured prominently among photographs of athletes and sport teams. The caption on the photo reads "Malik Ali, 2007" and a signature of the photographer accompanies this caption.
As a recent alum of the university, I feel it is quite a sad commentary that a photo of Malik Ali is considered to be reflective of campus life. Perhaps this is the case and all of this is indicative of a larger set of problems that plague the campus community.
Readers should call the pub to protest this poor decision to feature this bigot at a place meant for socializing.
The number for the Anthill Pub is 949 824 3050.

It's outrageous that a photo of such a hate-monger should be posted anywhere other than at a "Bigots of the World" exhibition.
Well, this does simply illustrate what we all know to be true - dude's a prick, maybe even a dangerous one.
I do object to your curious use of the epithet "homophobe," though. As near as I can tell our dear Malik Ali fears neither death nor censure; I find it doubtful that he holds any fear in his heart of homosexuality, except in the abstract sense that we all fear surprise sodomy. At the very least it is unfair to label this man as such and thus lump those who honestly come by their fear (or, I suspect, their moral disgust) of homosexuality in with a man so outrageous and ridiculous as he.
The movement that Malik Ali is involved with, As Sabiqun, prescribes death for homosexuals. The movement is Sunni and thus extremely orthodox.
Most individuals who disagree with homosexuality do not prescribe death as a form of punishment for homosexuals. I believe that calling for death of homosexuals is quite extreme and inhumane regardless of one's personal feelings about the issue.
I hope that clarifies.
It does, thank you. I am obviously rather dismissive of raving idiots like Malik Ali, so I don't know much about his positions on "the issues" beyond "apartheid" this, "exterminate Jews" that.
The word "homophobe" is used so often to abuse anybody and everybody who does not look on homosexuality as an unquestionable glowing beacon of goodness and normativity, generally with little in the way of qualification, that I assumed that was the case here, the better to denounce Malik Ali to those who would otherwise not particularly care about terrorist aggression against Jews (you and I know there are many who do not on our campus). I'll accept your word that this is not so in the case of our Mr Malik Ali, and I apologize for making that assumption.
Anonymous,
You made a rather good point earlier. I've briefly edited the post for the sake of clarity.
"...notoriously racist, homophobic (the movement he is associated with prescribes death for homosexuals)..."
Thank you again for your comment.
